Local park information

Access to local parks will be different on New Year’s Eve so that everyone can safely enjoy the celebrations.

Beare Park

Beare Park is a free, non-ticketed vantage point.

Access to Beare Park may be disrupted from 7am on 29 December to 6pm on 1 January for set up and take down of site infrastructure.  We will aim to keep noise levels and disruption to a minimum as we prepare for the event.

Ithaca Road will be closed to vehicles between the Esplanade and Billyard Avenue from midday on 31 December. The road will reopen at 1am on 1 January. Traffic management will be in place during the closure and reopening period.

The City of Sydney will use 15 car spaces in the car park off Ithaca Road and one car space on the Esplande from 7am on 29 December to 6pm on 1 January to set up and take down site infrastructure. The image on the back of this letter shows the car park spaces which will be used.

The site will include:

  • St John Ambulance

  • security

  • portable toilets

  • fencing

  • lighting tower

Alcohol, glass and sharp objects are not permitted at Beare Park on New Year’s Eve. Intoxicated people will not be permitted entry. Site management reserves the right to refuse entry or remove people from the site if they are disruptive or offensive.

Bicentennial Park

Bicentennial Park is a free non-ticketed vantage point.

Access to Bicentennial Park may be disrupted from 6am on 28 December to 6pm on 2 January.  We will aim to keep noise level and disruption to a minimum as we prepare for the event.

Chapman Road car park will be closed to vehicles from midday on 31 December.  The road will reopen at 1am on 1 January.  Traffic management will be in place during the closure and reopening period.

The City of Sydney will use 8 car spaces on the western side of Chapman Road from 6am on 28 December to 5pm on 2 January to set up and take down site infrastructure. An additional 12 car spaces will be used from 6am on 28 December to 5pm on 2 January at Federal and Northcote roads. The images on the back of this letter show the car park spaces which will be used.

The site will include:

  • security

  • portable toilets

  • fencing

  • lighting towers

  • food vendors

Intoxicated people will not be permitted entry. Site management reserves the right to refuse entry or remove people from the site if they are disruptive or offensive.

Embarkation Park

Embarkation Park is a free, non-ticketed managed access vantage point managed by the City of Sydney on New Year’s Eve. Pass-outs are not permitted, so if you are planning to celebrate at Embarkation Park, please ensure you bring everything you need with you and arrive early together.

Following the midnight fireworks, the site will close at 1am on 1 January for clean-up and will reopen at 3am.

McDonald Lane  and Victoria Street will be closed to vehicles from 6am on 31 December to 4am on 1 January.

Parking on the east and west side of Victoria Street (north of Challis Avenue) currently signposted as 1P 8am - 10pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area 12, will be reallocated to a No Stopping – Authorised NYE Vehicles Excepted for a temporary period from 6am on 29 December 2023 to 6pm 1 January 2024.

The site will include:

  • fencing and crowd control barriers

  • lighting towers

Giba Park

Giba Park is a free, non-ticketed managed access vantage point managed by the City of Sydney on New Year’s Eve. Pass-outs are not permitted, so if you are planning to celebrate at Giba Park, please ensure you bring everything you need with you and arrive early together.

Following the midnight fireworks, the site will close at 1am on 1 January for clean-up and will reopen at 4am.

The City of Sydney will use four car spaces on Point Street West and two car spaces on Mill Street from 6am on 29 December to 6pm on 1 January to set up and take down site infrastructure. The image on the back of this letter shows the area which will be used.

The site will include:

Pirrama Park

Pirrama Park is a free, non-ticketed managed access vantage point managed by the City of Sydney on New Year’s Eve. Pass-outs are not permitted, so if you are planning to celebrate at Pirrama Park, please ensure you bring everything you need with you and arrive early together.

The City of Sydney will use 10 car spaces on the northern side of Pirrama Road and a further five car spaces west of this from 6am on 28 December to 6pm on 2 January to set up and take down site infrastructure. The image on the back of this letter shows the area which will be used.
